About Safe Living Search
Sex offender housing research built from lived experience.
We created Safe Living Search after experiencing how difficult it can be to evaluate a home against overlapping state and local residency restrictions. What began as a personal solution is now a practical sex offender housing research tool for people required to register, their families, and the professionals who support them.
The challenge was not finding available properties. It was understanding which addresses were worth pursuing.
Our journey began in Florida when our founders started searching for a home together. State restrictions were only one part of the process: counties, cities, and municipalities could have different protected locations, distance requirements, and local ordinances.
Comparing addresses manually across maps and rules became stressful and time-consuming. As a software engineer, one founder saw an opportunity to build a more consistent workflow—one that could place an address, configurable criteria, nearby locations, and distance information in a single view.
“We used the first version ourselves to evaluate hundreds of addresses and eventually found the home where we were able to relocate.”
That experience became Safe Living Search. Today, the platform supports address research across the United States, allows users to configure distance and location filters, saves previous results, and includes in-home daycare data for Florida searches.
Safe Living Search is operated by Compiled Byte, LLC. The company maintains the platform, publishes its research guides, and provides account and customer support.
